Походная книга Муми-тролля // воспоминания

В поисках вдохновения и отдохновения взяла сегодня книжку с полки наугад.

Давно купленная "Походная книга" навеяла воспоминания о сыром ноябрьском дне в те времена, когда я жила в глуши, почти что в лесу. В тот день ко мне приехал гость, что было большой редкостью. К такому Снусмумрику, как я, редко приходят посетители. 

И тогда я решила устроить что-нибудь грандиозное. Например, пойти в поход.

Мы отправились к реке. Идти до неё было около четырёх километров. Я взяла рюкзак, сложила в него термос с чаем, спички, бумагу для розжига, маршмэллоу. Весело шагали мы в сторону тайги, как вдруг пошёл снег. Огромные липкие хлопья кружились в воздухе, одевая пушистые пихты в белоснежные кафтаны. Нас они тоже облепили, как рой пчёл. 

Если бы я тогда прочла Походную книгу Муми-тролля, я бы знала, что в осенний поход нужно надевать только непромокаемую одежду. Но я купила её гораздо позже.

Промокшие и голодные, мы добрались до моего места силы. На берегу узкой и быстрой реки, где когда-то давно добывали золото, а сейчас иногда ловят хариуса да сплавляются в каяках, среди трёх вековых елей мы стали разводить костёр. 

К тому времени снег уже подтаял и все ветки стали сырые. Я помню, что развести огонь было сложно, но мы ни секунды не огорчались. Только нанизывали, хохоча, белые сахарные конфеты на тонкие прутья и поджаривали их на тонком пламени нашего горе-костра.

Забавно, но именно это воспоминание одно из самых ярких за прошедшее десятилетие. 

Я полностью согласна с автором книги Сами Малила в том, что в походы можно ходить круглый год - было бы желание. Если не на неделю, то хотя бы на час. 

Для детей десяти-двенадцати лет эта книга станет хорошим подспорьем в походном деле. Тут есть и списки необходимого снаряжения для всех видов походов, и рецепты походной еды. Как поставить палатку, как не заблудиться, как отличить съедобные грибы от несъедобных - много полезной информации. Есть даже инструкция, как сделать снежный фонарь! Актуально. 

Целая глава посвящена природе. В ней описываются наиболее распространенные животные и растения леса (финские, но все знакомы нам и встречаются в наших лесах).

Иллюстрируют книгу рисунки Туве Янссон, и там и тут текст перемежается цитатами из рассказов о Муми-троллях.

«Удивительные все же эти дороги и реки, – размышлял Снифф. – Смотришь, как они убегают вдаль, и тебе самому хочется очутиться где-то далеко. Бежишь за ними поглядеть, где же они кончаются…»

Legends Of The Fall Review

After I posted the video for my son's birthday, some people asked me about the track I used in it. I'm going to share a little bit about the background of my choice. The track "The Ludlows" was taken from the movie "Legends of the Fall", that I watched last year. It was downloaded last summer, but something prevented me from watching it right away and it was waiting for me to get ready for it. The right moment happened after I came home from Finland where I spent a beautiful week with some gorgeous folks, who also recommended me to watch it. It was the middle of September when it finally happened. 

I got moveless with the first words and scenes. "Tristan Ludlow was born in the moon of falling leaves". Although thousands of movies are produced every year, it's hard to find a good one that's able to satisfy my taste. That one was a gooder.

The first thing I want to mention is the actors and what a big job they did. They played so professionally and so emotionally that they completely changed my previous perception of them. Nobody scared me so much when I was a child like Anthony Hopkins did. His portrayal of Cannibal Lecter is still a vivid memory from the childhood. I would never start watching anything with him voluntarily. I just didn't know he starred in "Legends..." My mom told me. I said "No! It's not him! Anthony Hopkins is scary. This man with a moustache is handsome and pleasant". "That's him," - mom said. I googled. She was right.

Brad Pitt. I never liked him before this movie. Yes, Benjamin Button is rather cool. That's all I saw. I'm not a Pitt fan. But after this flick I watched some more Pitt's films, like "The River Runs Through It", "The Assassination of Jessie James", "Thelma and Louise", etc.

The second point is the scenery. Legends of the Fall was filmed in Alberta and British Columbia, Canada. I haven't been there, but it's on my list. I love the nature over there. I would watch Legends only for its woods and skies.

The costumes are rather simple but beautiful. I like the style of that epoch and would love to dress like that in my daily life. 

 

The last but not the least thing to mention about Legends is that it's an epic drama. It's EPIC. It is. It's about people, the whole generations of people, and their fates. 

Talking about weak features of Legends, I can say that it's way too romantic and represents "a picture-postcard vision of American West". But this is like a cup of cowboy coffee on a chilly September day for me. 

And yes, the story is narrated by an Indian character (a Cree to be exact). Like for it! 

So, I highly recommend Legends for everyone. You will not waste your time, I promise. 

First Snow In The Woods

This day started like the best day ever. We woke up early in the morning and looked out of the window. Yay! It was snowing at night and the ground was covered with soft white virgin snow. I knew it wouldn't last long as the temperature was about -1 C, so I hurried to take my little one out to enjoy this beauty. "Let's go to the forest", - I said. "It's much more breathtaking there than in the town". And off we went.
We took along our bear Bjorn and a camera, so in the end of the walk we had many cute pics for our family album. Unfortunately, that long walk in the woods didn't encourage my son to take a nap in the afternoon and the evening was short and full of tantrums. He has decided no more naps but still really needs them. I do my best to wear him out, but sometimes even those long distances don't work. Anyway, morning was fantastic. Here is our "Gruffalo's Child Story". Enjoy!

Crispy Waffles

 Today I'm going to write about waffles.

I'm so lucky to have this old  waffle maker that my grandma bought me in 199.. Every time I happen to say 199.. i stop for a moment and think. That makes me feel I'm getting older. Those times seem to be ancient times now and we should start with the words "Once upon a time.." I think it was 1993. 

Well, my grandma gave me that cool waffle maker which makes thin and crispy waffles I enjoyed so much when I was very young. It still works well. My son found it when we were organising our  stuff and got so excited, that I had no choise but to show him how to use it. He made the batter himself and then sat beside me to whatch this magical process of making hot crispy oh-so-sweet fresh waffles.

The recipe is easy as can be.

Ingredients:

2 cups all purpose flour

3/4 cup sugar

4 large eggs

6 tablespoons unsalted butter

1 cup milk

Directions:

1. Whisk together flour and sugar in a large bowl. Whisk together eggs, butter and milk in a medium bowl. Add egg mixture to flour mixture and whisk until smooth. 

2. Heat a waffle iron. Spoon 1/3 cup batter into each mold, and cook until golden brown. Serve warm with jam, evaporated milk or honey.

Our Boreal Forest in Fall

We live near the taiga - the boreal forest of Siberia. It takes us usually not more than 10 minutes to get there on foot. This place is one of our favourite spots to walk, breathe air and play.

Today my son and I went there for a photoset. Not so many pictures were taken, but we enjoyed ourselves greatly and picked some leaves for our crafts. Son admired the young sportsmen training for their upcoming competitions (there is a ski club near the forest). Later he found two cow skulls (I wonder how they could get there), but paid no attention to them. It made me believe that there are still wild animals such as wolves and bears in that forest. They surely live farther to the North, but nobody has seen either of them here for ages. No farms with cows are situated nearby either. That's a good question, and I'll try to investigate it. Maybe I'll ask my dad or someone who's been living here for a long time and seen all kinds of things.

These woods were inhabited by Native peoples of Siberia until white men came in 18th century. Some toponyms originate from their languages. For instance, the name of the river Barzas comes from the Ket language and means "wolf river". 

I'm going to post more articles about this land and publish some pics, for this is a really beautiful place and it's barely covered by bloggers. It has its spirit. The spirit that I have never come along in any other places.

Baked Apples - Печеные Яблоки

Пинтерест вдохновляет, и я пробую всё новые и новые рецепты, и мне это нравится! Печеные яблочки удались, и я слопала их за 5 минут, ведь сын мой не ест сладкого и всё достается мне. 

Рецептом мы обязаны на этот раз Марте Стюарт. Об этой женщине нужно написать отдельный пост и рассказать о ней публике. Но пока ограничимся рецептом этих прекрасных яблочек.

Рецепт я взяла с сайта Марты Стюарт. Как обычно, его пришлось немного адаптировать, так как мексиканский шоколад в форме диска, который быстро растворяется и плавится при нагревании, тут найти не удалось. 

Raspberry Pie - Малиновый Пирог

Осень идет, вечера всё темнее, ночи всё холоднее. В это время года, моё любимое время года, так хорошо печь пироги. Каждый раз я стараюсь пробовать что-то новое. Новые вкусы создают новые настроения. И так незаметно, по чуть-чуть, меняется жизнь вокруг нас.

Рецепт был взят на англоязычном сайте, переведен и немного адаптирован. Пирог этот интересен тем, что для начинки используется настоящая малина, а не малиновый джем. Я брала замороженную и полагаю, что со свежей будет еще вкуснее. 

Pumpkin Pie - Тыквенный Пирог

Этот пирог стал моим первым тыквенным пирогом. Рецепт я взяла отсюда и немного его адаптировала. Рецепт классический американский. Готовят такие пироги часто на Хеллоуин и День Благодарения, ну и осенью - в сезон тыкв, конечно. Американские хозяйки чаще всего берут для такого пирога консервированное тыквенное пюре, чем облегчают себе работу. Но я такого пюре у нас в магазинах не встречала, а на балконе как раз залежалось несколько толстушек, поэтому было решено найти рецепт "от тыквы и до пирога". К тому же так намного интереснее!
